There was a moment after writing the script for The Maker and before we started production when we needed to figure out what the Maker’s workshop looked like before we started building sets and props.
What we needed was a set designer!
We decided to reach out to Ben Thomas, a very talented creative and Illustrator we’d met several months earlier at the Hiroshima Film Festival.
Director Christopher Kezelos provided Ben with a creative brief outlining his vision for the workshop, which helped Ben with his direction.
Not long after, we were excited to see his sketches which really helped us visualize what to build.
We used some elements and not others, but the overall tone and feeling inspired our direction.
And speaking of inspiration, we recently received an email from Sofia G from Chile who had one of Ben’s concept sketches tattooed on her leg.
That’s pretty cool!
